Golf - Clearwater Sanctuary Golf Resort - Perak

This is one of my favorite course in Perak. I hardly travel 2 hours just to play a round of golf so although its affiliated with BJCC i seldom play there. But every time i played in Clearwater its always fond memories of the beautiful course build around tin mine left over. Yes it was once a place rich with tin. The left overs are just the water so playing here is a relation of greens, fairways and water. Perak has several nice courses, the other i have played is Royal Perak which is superb as well.

Clearwater Sanctuary Golf Resort says it all, the water is very clear - you see whats down there, and they have resorts - water front chalet. They driving range is unique as well you play into the water, so you see your actual carry distance. Pro shop is small but i manage to grab some logo balls for souvenirs. The club house is nice at least they have some famous ice kacang, fruit rojak as refresher. Shower rooms are up to par, the high ceiling does make it appears to be larger than actual, this also provides good lighting.

The course is build around one or many big lake(s);front nine wrap around left side of the lake while, back nine wrap around right side of the lake. Afraid of the heat then start back nine first in the morning; front nine has more trees use for cooling shades/hide out. I have played throughout the year 3 times and this time the greens condition are the best; no more temporary fairway greens, no top soil and no holes on the green - accept the one hole. LOL. Green speed is generally slow as compare to US greens but they are beautiful this time. Greens are firm unless over night rain occurs to season the green a little; expect to play roll on to the green. Most of the green size is huge so pin location is crucial; approach on the wrong side may well ended up a 3 putt hole.Between hole 5 and 6 there is a rest stop for food, they have some good home cook style laksa nona, fried noddles, etc. Skipping hole by hole description, the par 3 are mid irons except hole 17 that requires long irons to carry over water. Par 4 are usually reachable in two except hole 8 and 9 which requires distance from the tee shot and accuracy on long irons/wood going into the greens. the par 5 are no exceptional; 2 shots to the greens are for long hitters. plan your hole well and par game is reasonable on their par 5s. i don't really know which is the signature hole but to me every hole is unique and challenging. just look at the pictures from a 2mp cell phone camera and you will know not only i am busy playing golf but also taking nice scenery of Clearwater Sanctuary golf resort.

The ratings of the course tells us its a tough course to conquer; Course rating from the blue tee is at 74 for a par 72 course while slope rating is 135 2 points higher than the already challenging BJCC (133). I always look forward to play there; just got to get a volunteer driver (of course i'll pay the reasonable transportation fees) You can never get enough of joyful golfing in Clearwater - just wish its a never ending golfing there. Our usual treat to this never ending golfing is to get another round of par 3 executive 9 holes. Playing this par 3 will let you have a taste of the sweetness golfing there while we still manage to finish everything before night falls. For visitors to northern Malaysia, a detour to Clearwater is taken for granted - a must visit course!!!
