Golf - Permaipura Golf Country Club

i love photography and golf, and i am making the effort to blog the courses i have played starting from the northern region.

Permaipura Golf Country Club, one of the three golf course available in Sungai Petani. Kedah vicinity. This is an 18 Hole 5666 meters (from blue tee) total short course; where beginners will have lots of fun here. They have extended the length by providing 6160 meters black tee not long ago.

This course is not crowded at all during the weekdays - as if you have the whole course with you. As for weekends i am not sure since i don't golf here often. What brings me to this course lately is playing with my colleagues that have just picked up this game. They have this wonderfull pay for three and get the fourth player free deal, so for guest walk-in rates is RM60 per person (equally divided).

Overall the course condition is great. When you are in Malaysia golfing and you see non-Cow Grass fairways you can classify them as great course. hahahaha. Greens are fast due to gardeners trimming it down to the ground; greens look brown from far and when you are close or at the green you can still see grass. During rainy days green plays a little soft hence ball will stop/bite with a high approach shot. On hot dry sunny day, ball roll will be noticable. They don't have huge or double break or tricky greens, one/two putt effort is makable on most of the holes. Tee boxes arent the greatest but playable. When playing blue tee box, hole 7 and 12 posseses a tougher tee-off than black tee box; primary due to trees laying out too close. It maybe the course architect that wants it this way or else its a miss calculation. Most of the holes do not need superduper long drive drivers, 3 wood or even a long iron is surfice. This course has lots of trees to shape the holes, water hazard is the least to wprry when playing this course. Bunkers are many especially surrounding the greens, fairway bunkers are bing and well position to trap 200 meter tee off distance golfers. Fairwarys are huge and forgiving; for straight hitters its a no brainer to land tee shot at fairways. For slight draw/fade type tee off - beware of close tree lines arround tee box.

This is a scoring course, for beginners it wil be a blast with less challenges, and for low handicapers it will be a self regaining confidence course, low eighties/hi seventies is not a problem at all. The scenery is nothing special, I can't find a signature hole and for one time golfing in Permaipura, you will soon forget the holes as they are pretty much the same. i have captured hole 9 approaching green with the club house sitting in the backdrop - assuming this is the signature hole.

Buggies are electric powerfull/tourqey zoom zoom... and YES its a buggy on everywhere course, just beware of dropping towels, headcovers and etc while crusing buggies on farways - they are bumpy. There isn't any rest areas available and definitely no refreshment beverages in the course, so pack yourself some picnic sandwich and a six pack in the buggy. Club house is as quite as midnite Walmart... you have to ping at the counter for waitress to serve you and the food ain't good at all - don't waste time searching. Shower rooms are just pure simple bathing area, so my suggestion is take a quick shower and head out to Sungai Petani for some great food (local assistant needed to locate good food).
