Golf - Kelab Golf Sarawak

I had this wonderful chance to visit KGS (Kelab Golf Sarawak)located in Kuching, thanks to my golf buddies who took the effort organized Astro Prudential Golf tournament in Damai Sarawak; Yes you heard me Damai Sarawak. Before the real tournament we a flight of 2 went to KGS for a round of 18 holes. This is a PGR reciprocal and we have 3 PGR member and 5 guest; we shared the fees and each person ended up paying somewhere around RM75 per head. This is a 36 hole course and we played the championship course - Matang and Santubong. The other 18 hole is Siol and Demak which was in the itenerary but later decided to switch to a spa and massage leisure.

Back to KGS, Matang and Santubong, this course is averagely long 6000 plus meters total - can't remember the exact distance but you are more than welcome to visit their website (http://www.kgswak.com/) for details. They even include the hole by hole description, tips and tricks to tackle the holes.

Now my version/perspective (bare with me as i am sure i won't be blogging this course as extensive as the courses that i played more than once): this is a well designed course, flat and condition is good on the fairway and fair on the green. Green is in sanding conditioning, we were told there was a major tournament held a week before. This course isn't crowded on Friday so we had a very relaxing game. The landscape/background isn't interesting at all, only a couple of buildings at certain hole. The rest is flat and to my surprise trees were young and small; i was told this is one of the oldest course in Kuching Sarawak. The courses don't have many water hazards, so don't worry about lost balls, but bunkers are placed strategically on fairways to trap 200ish meter drivers. Although the greens are in sanding condition, the green speed is relatively faster than BJCC (my home course) BJCC has an average of 7 ~ 8 speed and i would guess KGS has about 8~ 10 speed rating. All their PAR 3 are mid to short iron challenge. PAR 5 are reachable in 3 for average drive but for long hitters, 2 good drives is in the picture. As fas as i recall there isn't any tight fairway holes, unless your shots are wild, ball play is most certainly in the fairway or first fairway cut. The club house is big and nice - a pyramid like structure. Shower room is clean well sectioned and not to mention the furnitures are well up kept. The food is bad, or maybe i am picky; the food is no comparison to Penang food, lack of choice and not tasty are the description; the serve is longer than usual as well.

By now, you would most likely to find out i don't have much fond memories of this course - I can't find the signature hole. The landscaping is pretty much the same for all 18 holes and the collage made is picked from the best i have took. well enough said, will i go back there for a round? the answer is straight and simple no. hahahaha..... unless i have a chance to drop by Kuching again, but seriously i won't take a flight all the way to play there again; the urge isn't there for a revisit after finishing 18 holes.
