Golf - Cinta Sayang Golf Resort - SP Kedah

Cinta Sayang Golf Resort is one of 3 golf courses in Kedah, Sungai Petani (in short SP). First and foremost....i use my trusted HTC 2MP pin hole cellphone camera for all these pictures (including the ones i have posted earlier) so bare with me on the photo quality which includes inconsistent white balance, sharpness, saturation and the list goes on. Carying my DSLR to the course would actually deviate my entire purpose...which is golfing excitement right? hahahahaha. ok back to the course before i drift off too far.

This course is a par 72 course and it is measured in yardage. playing from the blue tee gives you a total 6903 yards. this course only provide you single point yardage reference, so for beginners, its surely a guessing game on distance. they some how has missed the other yardage stick or distance markers on the ground. or maybe this is one of the challenge intended. The course is one of the most preferred course in the northern area and i am sure lots of season northern golfers will agree with me on this one. year round this course is flooded with golfers of course and one thing to take note is there is exceptionally more foreign golfers in particular Korean and Japanese golfers playing in this course. the management has done its job superbly to maintain the playability of the course. Maintaining a golf course in Malaysia is not cheap. they have optional caddie system which i like, if you have read my Kulim blog you would have known i am very much offended by half ass quality service. there is practice green and chipping green (they are separate) but is very small. the golf resort offers driving range and residence pro for coaching as well. but my comments stops here as i don't use them at all. For more information about the resort/golf kindly visit website http://www.cintasayang.com/.

i would rate the greens on a scale of 10 a 7; they have big greens and small greens but most of them will bite well on high approach shots. Green speed is quite even, i am guessing they have about 10 green speed rating. occasionally you will hear golfers say the greens are inconsistent, well they are not (if you try BJCC you will know what is irregular green speed) the green contour is what makes the putt sometimes seems a lot quicker than the other. Fringe around the greens are significant and well maintain, i guess this is one of the key to good greens. Fairways are nice also; grass is definitely not cow grass, but if you land yourself in the rough, then you will be penalized by no only the uncut cow grass but also many trees. one thing is a sure notice on this course; many trees are on hole 1, 10, 14, 9, 12, 17, 18 that shapes the hole; a fifty percent chance of loosing a ball on a bad shot is possible. On dry season, you will notice lots of ball roll on your driver (as much as 40 yards) . overall all holes are reachable with green in regulation for average golfers. the par 3s are a mixture of mid irons to long irons play. There are quite a number of holes with lateral water hazards, but its no comparison to Clearwater Sanctuary Golf when you talk about water hazards. course manage it well and all water hazards will be out of your mind/play. bunkers are well placed on most of the holes, they are usually firmer clay type sand but most of them is in good shape; no rocks/pebbles just sand. Tee box of certain holes are PGA standard; flat and distinctively square cut, but some has significant settlement; tee off on the wrong side may results in unwanted slice/hook. There are restrooms and stops for a drink/quick snacks, if my memory serves me right they are on hole 6 tee box and hole 16 tee box. at times hole 16 rest may be close so get your snacks early or you will have to wait till the end of the game and stop at te club house.

Club house is old but in good shape. the local pro shop just renovated for a fresher look, but still small; its a golf house operated shops. there are quite a few bargains on irons (Ping G5, TM Burner Plus. some Miz) for now. the swimming pool and ball room are separated from the reception, for golfers it is not necessary to go that route at all. the changing room is up kept and gives golfers a feel of taking shower in a tropical forest... ok i went to far on this, you get the picture its nice to shower there. the coffee house is so so as in you can good continental food but sub par local delicacies. There are many more good food beyond the golf resort, but may require local expertise to find it.

I always find myself play there again and again; not only they offer good course to play but also a good get away from BJCC - Penang Island; its just a 45minutes speedy drive and 1 hour cruise drive from where i stay excluding traffic. this is definitely a must play course for folks visiting northern golf course. AGN member only pays $37.40 on weekdays, guess rate is $75ish weekday.
