Golf - Damai Golf Sarawak

Damai Golf, a place where family and golfers can stay and have fun. The beach is just next to the golf course - certain holes are actually by the beaches. This is a par 72 course with front nine layout to the hills (Santubong Mountain) and back nine is layout towards the beaches. This is a 6000+ meters course and hole one is a long par 5 to start with. We played the Astro Prudential tournament here and going thru my memories, i started at Par 3 third hole. this is a short iron approach follow on by a short par 4 (380meters) with both sides hazard to trap hookers and slicers. The first nine that sats on the hills are very cooling to play, especially in the morning, where you can still see the dews on the greens/fairways. The greens speed are inconsistant in general but experience golfers will know the moment they step into the greens. As for me, the caddie helped me out by telling me when its fluffy thick carpet like; then the green is slow. vice versa when the greens are firm then its a fast greens. there are huge water hazards but all are at the side of fairways waiting to penalized slicers and hookers. occasionally small creeks and drains are to be drive across. shouldn't be a big problem unless people have a problem going through them. hahaha. As far as i can recall the fairways are a mixture of bermuda grass and cow grass. I guess in Malaysia it's really tough to maintain top notch grass. back to the greens, they are hell tricky especially the firm fast ones; land the ball on the wrong side of the greens and 3 putts are possible. on hole 11 there is a big pond sitted on the right side of the par 5 fairway, the management even warn golfers not to pick ball from that pond - guess what crocadiles habitat...LOL, no not the golfer buaya the real buaya lives in the pond. besides this interesting hole, 16 hole lives or should i say dead people is just around the corner. I was told to pray before putt and will most likely to get blessing/par hole. well it didn't work for me. hehehe seriously there are chinese cemetry tombs located on the right side of hole 16; so try not to land the ball there. the hole 17 is the famous/signature par 3 hole. tee box from a rough guess is 6~10 feet higher than the green. wind is gusting from the south china sea and is very eratic.

Club house is old made of wood and locker room is sub par standard. Pro shop is small and limited product; the cafeteria is bad as well. just imagine its a place where you don't want to have lunch after the game. The shower room is also very limited, i have to que up for my turn and its dark inside so beware of slippery floors. Overall the club house is unwelcome and most certainly you want to get the hell out of the locker rooms as soon as you are done. OK i missed out the practice greens and driving range.. well there isn't much to mention as they are there just for the reason all 18 hole course must have facilities. So to summarize Damai Sarawak....yeah i'll come back for another round when ever possible but will definitely have to go through the sub par club house facilities, unless the management sees my blog and started to upgrade......I wish. Golfing in Damai is a blast with more nice memories.
